When asked to craft an Artist’s Statement, Randy wrote:
“When I make art, I am engaging in many internal conversations, all leading to a larger external one with the viewer. Such is the act of storytelling. Some of the internal conversations are conscious, but many are not.
“I am always aware of the compositional struggle in painting and strive for harmony between all the players on the field – form, contour, color, texture and depth of field.
“I am also aware of the temperature at which my piece is percolating, lest it boil over unattended.
“I am fully aware of my responsibility to the inner voice and listen for it constantly.
“I remind myself to hydrate and stay focused on the plot.
“And when the dance is over, the pigments are dry and the result is hanging out there for all to see, I hope that my efforts are seen as the imperfect metaphor they are – a humble story in paint.”
